Christmas is a wonderful time of year, and an excellent excuse to treat ourselves. Be it chocolate, Cheese, wine or Christmas pud rest assured this is the time of year to indulge. And in the spirit of Christmas we’ve put together a small list of some of our favourite bottles and how to pair them with seasonal culinary delights.
Jean Marc Lafage
Hailing from the Cotês Du Roussillon in the very South of France, this beautifully rich white wine makes a perfect contributor to the dinner table at Christmas, pairing fantastically with rich poultry such as Duck liver or Partridge. A very easy recommendation from us.
An intensely deep red with delicious notes of black and red fruits providing exquisite flavours in this unusual Uruguayan Tannat. From the Maldonado region of Uruguay, Bodega Garzon’s Tannat really is a tribute to New World Wines. We suggest pairing it with rich meats to accompany the robust flavours of the wine. Lamb, Venison or Beef Fillet should suit this wine to a tee.
Col Di Sasso Banfi
We simply couldn’t leave the Christmas Turkey unaccounted for and the Sangiovese/Cabernet blend from the hills of Castello Banfi, Tuscany make a wonderful pairing. Flavours of ripe raspberries and blackcurrants feature in this easy drinking, unmistakably Italian Red.
For the perfect aperitif at any dinner party and a special treat at Christmas, we recommend our house champagne De Castellane Croix Rouge. Favoured throughout the Parisian Belle Epoque period in the early 1900’s and currently part of the Laurent Perrier group we couldn’t rate this champagne more highly. Notes of brioche, white flowers and fresh compote give it a magnificent, crisp palate.
Croix Rouge Brut
From the Lontue Valley region of Chile, Valdivieso’s ‘Noble Rot’ Botrytis certainly is a treat. Hand picked grapes are carefully selected and processed to produce this absolutely fantastic dessert wine. Rich, sweet flavours of honey and candied lemon present within Eclat make it a wonderful post-meal wine to enjoy by the fire, or with a rich dessert.
