How to plan your perfect wedding in Plymouth

Langdon Court Hotel is a beautiful Devon wedding venue, but no matter how exquisite your surroundings, you still need to be organised to put on a memorable and hitch-free wedding. Here’s our handy guide to help

Set a date. The most important starting point. The venue for your wedding and your reception are important, so check availability, then set the date. Everything else then works towards that wedding date.

You’ll need to book your reception and wedding venue too, to make sure that date doesn’t need to change. Now you can start compiling your guest list. Guests will need lots of notice, so they don’t plan holidays or other events.

You also need to book the registrar. If you are marrying in a church, the registrar will probably be the vicar, but you may want someone to marry you who is not a registrar. Contact your local register office about this.

Make a list of everything you need to buy or do and start shopping around – wedding dress, wedding cake, seat placements, flowers… You should also look into wedding insurance, to cover any unforeseen circumstances.

Send out your invitations, along with information about the wedding venue and the reception venue – perhaps including a map with contact details for local hotels.

Assuming you have chosen your bridesmaids, best man and flower girl, choose outfits for them to wear. The earlier you shop around or plan for this, the better.

Book your honeymoon – you may want to buy a honeymoon package, or put together your own travel plans. Don’t leave it too late though if you want a dream holiday. Look for early booking discounts.

Have a dress fitting and find a hairdresser – maybe a salon that can do nails and hair on the same day. Organise this because you may find availability is short if you call the day before asking for them to book a wedding party of five.

Reserve accommodation for your guests and book transportation – not only transportation for anyone that needs to get to the wedding but also the wedding cars for the big day.

3 months to go!

Buy wedding rings, choose wedding favours and any gifts you might want to buy for parents, bridesmaids and best man. Choose your readings and run through the ceremony with the minister or registrar.

If you haven’t already done so, choose and book your wedding cake and book wedding night accommodation.

2 weeks to go!

Have your final dress fitting and make sure the men are fitted for their suits, because these should be ordered now if they haven’t already been hired.

Give the caterer your final guest numbers and create a seating plan for the wedding reception. Try out table decorations and confirm arrangements with florist, chauffeur and cake maker.

Now book a spa day and relax.
