Choosing the venue is arguably the most important decision you will make regarding your wedding day. Many couples have a vision of how their special day will look and feel long before it comes around, and matching this vision with a real-life venue can be a difficult task. To lend you a hand, we have put together our tips on how to find a venue which is perfect for your wedding day.
The first step is simply to sit down with your partner and put your heads together to understand what you are both looking for. Do you want a summery wedding in a stylish marquee? A more relaxed or vintage affair in a traditional refurbished barn? Or perhaps you are looking for a stunning, elegant and sophisticated venue such as a charming country manor like Langdon Court? What is important at this stage is that you both understand and agree on the style and feel that you are looking for.
Visit the venue
Once you know what you are looking for, draw up a shortlist and visit the venues that might suit the ceremony you are concocting, preferably at the time of day you hope to be at the venue on the day itself. This will give you a real idea of exactly how the venue will appear to guests. Give each venue a thorough investigation and try to visualise whether it could be tailored and decorated to take on the theme of your wedding.
So, you’ve done the tour and you are completely sold on the venue. But before you sign on the dotted line, it is time to think practically and quiz the venue on the logistics. How many people does it hold? Does the venue provide food? If so, can you design the menu you want? Ask these questions before you book, rather than finding yourself in a mess further down the line.
Consider your guests
At the logistics stage, it is also crucial to consider your guests. Is the venue accessible for all your guests?
How will they get there? Will anybody need to stay over?
If so, does your venue have guest rooms available? Also, do you have any children coming to your big day?
If the answer is yes, you may want to consider whether the venue is child-friendly.
